What dates has changed your life? Part 2

Fast forward to June 18, 2009 when everything things changed.  After a day full of excitements, a birthday celebration with games and treats with her friends and their parents.   As I put her to bed, she looked into my eyes and in her most tendered voice asked me, “Daddy, where is your mother?”  Like a thunder had struck, my heart dropped to the floor.  I hurry picked it up, put it back in and be brave for her sake.

As a boat people who had left my country behind many years ago, I didn’t know what to tell her.   “Grand ma is back home,” I managed utter those words, at the same time, fighting the tears about to overwhelmed me.  Then without warning, “Where is home daddy?”  She inquired.  And I lost in that question.

When she finally slept, I went to the basement, my office.  Turn on the computer and type in three words, “Who am I?” As if the story already existed somewhere in the universe, at that moment, I was happened to tap it and it flowed out of me.

After two years of many painful revisions, I would like to introduce to you “BiDong, memoir of an absentminded exile.” A fictional tales that help me, the boat people, alone in search of identity, find who I am.  And I hope when you read it, it will help you a bit in your journey to help your children.
