Dear Kieu
As dawn broke over the horizon today, the world seemed to pause, as if in acknowledgement of a subtle but significant shift. The holidays, with their warm chaos and festive nights, have faded into memory, and life, as it always does, beckons me back to its familiar rhythms.
In this quietude, I found myself thinking of you, Kieu, as I often do. The thought of you has become a silent companion in my moments of solitude, a gentle reminder of a love that once was, and perhaps, still lingers.
Today marks a new beginning, a day I’ve dedicated to a series of promises made to myself. These commitments are simple, yet profound in their potential to transform. Meditation, to find peace in stillness; exercise, to celebrate the strength and resilience of this body; reading, to immerse myself in the vast ocean of others’ thoughts and dreams; preparing for the daily battles, both seen and unseen; reflecting on the day’s journey; and writing, to give voice to the myriad thoughts that dance in the quiet spaces of my mind.
I write this letter to you as part of that promise, to weave my thoughts into words, to reach across the silence that has grown between us. Today, I achieved these goals – small victories, perhaps, in the grand tapestry of life, but victories nonetheless. In these moments, I find the courage to hope, to believe in the possibility of love, not just for others, but for myself as well.
“The first rule of love,” they say, “is to love oneself.” This year, Kieu, I strive to embrace that truth. I hope, in your own journey, you’ve found the same courage, the same gentle strength to love yourself as you deserve.
As night falls, and the stars take their place in the sky, I find comfort in the thought that the same stars watch over you. In their quiet light, I find a connection to you, to our shared past, and to the hope that, in our own ways, we are both moving towards a future filled with love and peace.
With a heart full of memories and hope
Tuan
