Duped by an 8 year old.

my fraudster

Last month, I went back home to celebrate Tet: Vietnamese New Year. The trip itself was great, I got a chance to be with family, saw long-lost relatives, and catching up on the life of many Vietnamese people. The most memorable part of the trip was being dupe by an 8 years old girl, not once, but twice. Before you pass any judgement, just hear me out.

One day while walking to the Flower Garden, crossing a bridge to my destination, a girl on bicycle stopped before me and started crying. She was bawling excessively, as a father with a girl of my own couldn’t handle the sight of it, I talked to her. Well, the sad story went like this: she was sent to buy some medication for her grand father, and after a few minutes playing tag with the neighbor’s kids she lost the money, afraid being blame for losing it and got a world of spanking, she couldn’t help it, but cried.

How sad, that’s what I thought. So being a Good Samaritan, I forked out about $200.00 (comparable to USD) to give her for the medication, and on my way to the park. Feeling great that I was able to do some good deeds, I went home and told my sister about it. Not only did she laughs, and confirm how gullible I was, she went on to infuse me the new jobs description of young children in our country.

I refused to accept, how could an 8 years old girls, with such innocent, would do such a thing? She had a kind face, and when she looked into my eyes and told her story, all I could see was the truth. Her soul, as I peeked into it for the few minutes of discourse, was genuine, decent human being. I went to bed that night hoping my sister was wrong, but she wasn’t.

Will continue with a second post.
